The Foundations of Wellbeing

Is a 4 week programme which has been proven to reduce compassion fatigue symptoms and increase wellbeing among healthcare workers.

- Live weekly group relaxation sessions teaching  key physical stress release techniques followed by tea and a chat. These relaxation practices are a cornerstone of our approach to mind-body-spirit healing and will teach staff how to self calm and self sooth.

Karen Brennan is a Social Psychologist specialising in Compassion Fatigue Education, she is also a somatic wellness coach and tutor trainer in advanced trauma relief skills. She has spent the last decade working exclusively with staff in the Healthcare and Elder Care sectors. She is a former adjudicator of the Irish Healthcare Excellence Awards and current adjudicator of the National Public Service Awards. After spending 10 years in training and mental health roles, Karen moved to Asia for a number of years spending time in Buddhist monastic practice to develop the mind and heart towards greater compassion. For over 20 years, she has been integrating meditation and stress relief programs into her life as well as her healing work with those who care for others. Karen is a regular contributor to healthcare publications in the areas caregiver well-being and personal development. She lives in Dublin, Ireland.

What does Anam Korja mean?

Sonia and Karen are both fans of the acclaimed poet and scholar John O' Donohue who wrote the international bestseller 'Anam Cara'. This is an old Gaelic term for a soul friend, the plural of which is Anam Chairde, pronounced "Korja." 

"In early Celtic Church, a person who acted as teacher, companion or spiritual guide was called an Anam Cara. This friendship was an act of recognition and belonging. When you had an Anam Cara your friendship cut across convention, morality and category. You were joined in an ancient way with the 'friend of your soul'. The Celtic understanding did not set limitations of space or time on the soul" Anam Cara - John O'Donohue.


Our community of soul friends (korja) exists to help one another grow in mind, body and spirit as we serve others with deepening compassion and greater understanding of the human condition and our interrelation together as One.
